A Bit of Fall

Running errands, a legitimate reason to be out taking a break from stitching led to photos of early November in Redding.

Here are some photos taken on the drive out to the college this morning.

The trees are turning lovely colors — gold, red, magenta.

The clouds covered most of the sky. The sun wasn’t quite up.

It was moody and beautiful.

The photo of me was taken of a reflection in the window of American Tires, yesterday, while waiting for them to replace the right front tire I’d learned was impaled by a nail.

Cypress trees are so dramatic and a little spooky.

On the way back there was more light.

The magenta, red, orange trees line a small portion of Park Marina Drive. They are part of our morning drive.

Frank and I look forward to the change in the weather. Temperatures cool enough to coax out the color.

Yellow leaves in the right light seem to me a cosmic invitation to higher consciousness. Magenta leaves are beautiful, too.

Intelligent Universe

Fantastic things are in the atmosphere all the time. One just has to tune in to them.

I am  finding the Stanislov Grof book, When the Impossible Happens, fascinating. It is like a book full of short stories, recollections of instances of synchronicity, a retelling of the interplay between human consciousness and a living, responsive, humorous universal energy.

I read Carl Jung early. I was drawn to his autobiography, Memories, Dreams, Reflections. It was my first serious encounter with this idea of an intelligent universe interacting with humans. That notion is powerful — that everything “out there” is aware of and responds to everything in here, in me, in my consciousness.

We are all connected to the totality, the whole of all experience, all thought and all possibility. Time is a mind game.

As I’ve drifted though life I have noticed that certain things, seemingly insignificant, stand out, like quiet, mysterious little sign posts on the long road.

Bob said “Take what you have gathered from coincidence.”

Some say the little sign posts on the roadside are like nods of approval to let you know you are on the right road.

Sometimes, I think, they can be jokey, affectionate pokes. Like the universe saying “Your still driving and all cosmic laughing eyes are on you.”

I think we take the really serious ones, the encounters that come like a ghost jumping out into the road, waving arms and flagging us down. We see them as an invasion into what we have imagined is a safe, closed world. These encounters set off our fight or flight response. I think we handle them differently if/when we understand that they come from inside us.

Our perception of phenomena as friendly encounter or  threatening invasion makes all the difference. At the moment just before we intersect with that seemingly external element we can see a butterfly or a brick coming toward our windshield. Fear forms the brick. Love/acceptance transforms the oncoming entity into a butterfly.

This is how the ancients say we may surf the psychic realms. We can let all those  unexpected, ghosty figments/forms float through the psychic space we occupy, flow right through us.

When we attempt to bat them away or grab them and wrestle them to the ground they only grow larger and feel more threatening. It’s just our shadow waving.

No matter how threatening a thing may seem at first glance,  we can expect butterflies.

From the deep, dark mine of our psyche we can unearth the most brilliant jewels. The intelligent universe is a benevolent mine owner with our safety and spiritual prosperity eternally in mind.
